If you are in the US the will should of been filed with the county of the state she either lived in or passed away or in. You should be able to just walk in and get it especially if your name is in the will. But call ahead to see if they have it. Been thru a similar situation, good luck and sorry about the loss of your Granny.

In the case of minors the estate is usually assigned to a power of attorney who's responsibilities generally only entail them making sure the will is carried out as directed. But ever once in a while you get a PoA who jist doesn't want to let go of that power and thats where the lawyers come in handy.

I'm not sure of the legality of it, but I do know that some trusts have language preventing transfer of assets from trust until age 25-26.. usually to prevent irresponsible spending. I'd still consult an attorney though.
