I'm at 1 kh/s across my 3. My I7 7700k is only putting down 300 hash/sec. Same for my old 3570k.

Please explain to me why I'm an idiot and how to increase that?

The miner is buggy. If you do setgenerate true -1 it doesn't utilize your CPU cores properly. Do like setgenerate true 32 or setgenerate true 64 or something and it'll actually use 100% of your CPU.
