wall street culture is second only to the military in terms of "chain of command," boss is always right, young guys pay your dues (80-100 hr work weeks), and in general just getting shit on 24/7 to get your 100K + bonus salary.

Reality is no company is willing to pay you more than 10% of what you bring to the firm. Your salary going up means that's extra expense for them, which is why wall street has a high turnover rate for analysts and associates. Most people do 2 years and hate their life. Some masochists stay for 3rd year analyst. Some get promoted to associate or get recruited from top MBA to associate. If you can grind it out for a few years after that and play your POLITICS right then you can make VP, but at that you're expected to be more of a salesman than an analyst.
