I like the idea of Status and I see a lot of potential in it. Are there any other similar projects I should be investing in? I am aware of Toshi but as far as I know there is no token/coin associated with Toshi and no way to invest in it (please correct me if I'm wrong).

There is Toshi, which you've already pointed out. And there is Kin, which is Kik's ICO:

Currently hedging my bets on SNT because they have the most detailed roadmap out. Kin my be able to get their (retarded) usebase, sure, but that's it.
Token is the real challenger, because then they'd pull in the Coinbase userbase.
