One of the older, more solid coins created when focus was on tech rather than "startup in $FIELD only with a coin too".
As its name implies, the main thing it's supposed to be good at is speed.

I personally used Dash once, to get money into an exchange, and it wasn't any faster than, say, LTC.
I believe the real speed is in a special feature not part of default transactions.
Which kind of isn't so good. LTC/BTC with Lightning will achieve the same.

Most importantly though it's simply very organised dev team and well funded.

For me it's just a nice hedge against BTC failing as cash. I also hold Monero for similar reasons, tho they have different priorities to Dash

Also some people care about the fastmine, but the result is the devs have a shit ton of funding which is good. They've also clearly shown their commitment to the project.
