Since I know a bunch of you are just buying in hopes of a making a good trade, let me educate what you're buying into.

RISE - like Ethereum, Lisk, Stratis, ARK, and others - a platform for decentralized apps. This basically means that you use it to build new applications, ICOs, etc. on top of it.

RISE itself started out as a fork of Lisk, but has decided to switch over to ARK's blockchain because a) Lisk and its dev suck, b) ARK is better and has a solid roadmap. Their (RISE) whole thing is that they want to be like ARK, but simpler to use.

>HOW DOES IT WORK?
RISE (Like ARK and Lisk) works off a protocol called Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS). Essentially, instead of mining for new coins (think Bitcoin), RISE does "foraging." In practice, this means that only a select few number of nodes (called delegates) can get new tokens. These delegates are chosen via voting; you commit (signaling support) to a delegate using your RISE tokens. The more they have, the likelier they are to be included in the limited number of top delegates that can actually forage.

For ARK, there are 51 delegates. You might be interested to know that /biz/ has a delegate (biz_classic) that is currently #5 and is considered the most secure delegate (due to sheer number of voters in support of it).

So you can literally buy a shit ton of RISE, commit it to the right delegate, and then get paid new RISE on a daily/weekly/monthly basis for doing *absolutely nothing*. And this is as the value of RISE tokens fluctuate (and its likely to go up in the long term as the platform grows in use and popularity).

So in summary: if you want to do a short-term thing, buy and sell RISE within the next 1 to 5 days (ideally sell during the weekend as >>2823433 says because of changes).

If you want to hold in the long-term and get paid just for holding these suckers, hoard them now and commit to the right delegate. You benefit from getting new RISE tokens and the price going up (especially as the platform is updated and new dapps start being created using RISE. See how Stratis is rising now because the first of their dapps, called Obsidian, is ICO'ing soon).

Oh, and keep in mind that /biz/'s ARK group has talked about creating a delegate for RISE. Though they're still thinking about it, want to see where the token goes, and generally think that ARK is a superior token.

Well I think by October it should reach 60 satoshis or 20 ~ 25 cents per rise and it should either keep afloat or short term fall to 12 cents.
In my opinion success of rise depends on how well ark technology performs. I believe ark technology and it should reach around 15 dollars per ark and by taking 1/3 rule rise should be at 3~6 dollars per coin.
I also was contacted by e-pajeet asking to sell one delegate (around 900k of rise) for 14 cents per rise. I rejected because I dislike Indians and price was inadequate.
However take my opinion with grain of salt because it all depends too much on success of ark.

Not that I know; in fact, I consider it a shitcoin at the moment.

But people are interested and it would be fairly simple to set up a delegate through the biz_classic website and support both coins. My only fear would be people jumping the ARK ship to get in on the newer coin, despite myself being wary to even touch it currently. Even if you believe ARK is a shitcoin, RISE is significantly less promising than ARK right now because they've yet to release anything at all or even give non-vague roadmaps to a working product. The fact that RISE essentially cloned ARK is good for ARK.

If people already have RISE though, we would consider supporting it and putting a small fraction of our holdings into it to start up the delegate under the same rules as the ARK one.

Turns out you have to send off your private key to access your coins. Which means the Rise devs know all of your private keys and a single rogue dev or sysadmin with access to the server can run off with EVERYTHING.

No, we actually discovered this shit because very old ARK code that is deprecated now did this because it was taken from LISK's official API.

ARK:
- VERY old API few people used did this, but only the node API did it. Was never standard and is now completely removed. Very very old delegates may have had their keys sent to the devs if they used the node API.
- Regular wallets unaffected.

LISK:
- Nodes do this, they send their private key to the dev team to broadcast tx. It's their official API and the recommended way of sending tx with the API.
- Regular wallets unaffected.

RISE:
- The official web AND desktop wallet sends everyone's keys in plain text to the site.


RISE is the absolute worst offender of the three. At least with LISK only the delegates are compromised, but that still means the devs can take down the network at any time by screwing with delegate nodes.

I can't state this without looking like an ARK shill, but the code is open source and you can verify our statements yourselves, we've even linked directly to the insecure code in LISK and RISE.

We wanted to get on the RISE train because people were interested in it, but it would be stupid to do so when we can verify for a fact that the devs have received every private key that was logged into using their official online wallet and have also confirmed the desktop wallet does the same. This is monumental stupidity and defeats the purpose of crypto. We thought LISK was bad but RISE is far worse.

Kind of disappointing desu. If it's fixed we'll look into RISE again, but this is seriously dreadful security.

It also doesn't mention localhost or 127.0.0.1. Actually, the local wallet looks incomplete. The tx controllers are commented out. So if the repo is to be believed then the desktop wallet doesn't currently work, and people have to use the online wallet that sends the devs your keys.

After asking the slack, it looks like there is no desktop wallet yet. So right now, the only method of accessing your RISE is through the online wallet that gives the devs your passphrase/private key.

It's the code that's delivered to the browser when you load their wallet page which is why neither a hardcoded IP or "localhost" are reference in the code. The host is implied when you go on their site.
