First off: I don't give a shit about the environment. I want more money in my pocket.
A solar company said that they can put on solar, reroof, upgrade panel, and reword my house for $45K and they will bill it in a way that I can get a 30% Federal tax credit.

Solar makes sense if you're trying to get off the grid entirely, or if you experience regular outages and you intend to invest in large batteries. Otherwise the ROI is shit and you'll be stuck with a roof covered in outdated technology as newer panels are always going to be cheaper, more attractive and more efficient.

I did solar panels on a rental. What size system are they looking to install? That sounds like a fuckload of money.
The 30 percent federal credit you get no matter what. You could install it yourself and get it.
Here's the cost per kWh I'm paying on production from a solar city loan at 4.5 percent over thirty years. It's almost a full offset, but I'm paying an extra 3 cents or so per kWh.
