Can you go short and long at the same time?
in one account I dont think thats possible
there are ways to do it like buying covered options though

Suspending my disbelief you are trolling.
I mean, ideally you do this with two conflicting trade options. Not that eth and btc are inveserly related, but occasionally they are, and if you call it, you could hedge your bets, but still make out like a bandit.
What the fuck is this shit. Somebody ban this nonsense. Can I apply for /biz/ janitory, pls?

you can on evolve. i do it alot when its in a range to lower my risk

Ofc you can, you should rephrase your question as " Should I go short and long at the same time on the same coin?"
Yes.
It can help you average down your position without releasing your margin. It wont create two separate positions -- the dominant position will take precedent.
If you are Short 30 XYZ and then go Long 10 XYZ you are now Short 20 XYZ on most trading platforms.

yes you can, this is a real thing and it's called a boxed position. It's a way to hedge. Except you dont make any gains so it's kind of pointless.

You can also for example use ETH as collateral and then short ETH. (at least on poloniex)

this.
also if you are on a platform that allows separate positions then over time you can open multiple shorts at local-maximums and multiple longs at local-minimums in such a way that the net financing costs of the margin are significantly reduced.
when trading CFDs for instance this allows you to either take a much larger net-long position (with reduced financing costs) or a much larger net-short position (with increased interest bearing properties).
