So let me get this straight.
Doing a performance and putting it behind a fixed price paywall = business
Doing a performance for free but allowing people to pay however much they want if they choose to pay at all = begging
Why?
Because most street performers suck balls

why what?
begging = begging
street performers aren't presumed to be beggars unless they beg. why is that guy in your pic dressed like he's auditioning for the Matrix?
At least they are providing some kind of culture or entertainment. The guys who go around telling fake sob stories for money need to be gassed
because nobody wants to hear their crap music and theyre only doing it to get your left over shekels

Because they spend half the time begging for money by guilt tripping you and do it in tourist locations to ruin your experience. When I visit Chicago and want to visit a monument or landmark, I prefer there not to be niggers begging with amplifiers and a mic.
Now playing music and having a basket is fine but when you start talking on a loudmic, you deserve to get your windpipe kicked in.
False dichotomy.
Going through the proper channels and holding a concert somewhere and making a voluntary audience to pay for it = business
Going through the proper channels and holding a concert somewhere and asking a voluntary audience to give what they can spare = charity
Invading public space and forcing your subpar performance on a non-willing audience who is there for other purposes = begging

This
They also make it awkward by singing and playing just a little more passionately as you try to scurry past them unnoticed

because you are in a public place any no one asked to be entertained, you most likely suck because if you had actual talent you would be in a band/have gigs, would practice somewhere besides a fucking park or a train, and you are bothering anyone that can hear you and ruining most likely otherwise pleasant public areas with your begging bullshit fake artistry
