These are protocols being used in order to mask the IP address of users of the currency, this provides very little privacy, and certainly does not make the currency either untraceable, fungible, or private. I can follow a coin just as I can with bitcoin, seeing where money goes from wallet to wallet, the only offering Verge has is that I can't see an IP address with it.
