Any advice on an app or program to track spending over time?
Also any basic finance tips/questions
Goodbudget should be more than enough to get you going.
The more complex you want to track the harder it'll be to find

Keeping all fixed expenses down is a fantastic first step to financial independence.
I rent the cheapest smallest apt I can find in my desired area and have gotten rid of all unnecessary possessions.
When I worked in an office, I would prep all my meals 3 days at a time to keep me from spending unnecessary money on food. You can make great and tasty meals for <$5 a meal and never be hungry again (because you can eat 2x during the work day and work through lunch to make $$$).
Buy the cheapest car you are comfortable driving. I am in sales so I need a nicer vehicle (bought a beautiful used Cadillac for cheap).
A $10k car is $225 a month or less depending on your down payment.
With electric, sharing WIFI, insurance and phone, I spend less than $1000 on fixed expenses. If I made $10/ hour, I would still have about $650/ month for food gas and future planning.
Living is not hard in America, though every poor person ever says it is. They are poor for a reason.

>buying a car with money you don't have
It's like you want to stay poor. Car loans are a great way to lose money. If you can't afford to pay it in full, don't buy it
