What are your bare minimum estimates and how do you figure them?
The house has to be:
>between 500 & 2000 square feet
>no mini houses/shipping containers/trailers
>obviously doesn't have to be fancy, just livable

just dig a hole or cave. You dont have to pay anything and infact you gain things for free (dirt)
goodluck!

chop some trees in the mountains

Well which one is it?

As in 500 is the literal smallest it can be (must have at least one bedroom and one living room/kitchen)
Look into prefab, factory built homes. That's the cheapest way to build a house hands down.
100k minimum

really?
is that just like a kit that you have delivered to the site?
& is that cheaper than just doing the labor myself?

Yes, especially if you have no idea what you're doing
Everything will be to code and you won't burn your house down cause of an electrical fire
keep in mind for pre fabs you need to have your own foundation, Install eletrical lines, plumbing, sewer or septic tank installation, hook ups to city water or well, not to mention the land which needs to be flattened. Hell the fucking city may need to inspect the installation or require you to buy permits.
That $50k pre built house is alot more expensive then you think.
