If all those people who invested in ICOs just bought ETH directly, they'd have way more gains than they currently do.

It's like they don't understand how money flows:

More likely what will happen is ETH will drop low enough for second round of big/mainstream investors, causing ETH to recover even higher. Meanwhile gamblers on BNT and SNT will either continue to lose their ICO investment or those entities will become successful and they profit.
