I'm a senior at a university in the Northeast studying Econ/finance as a double major. I've had solid internships at BofAML and JP Morgan in my sophomore and junior summer. Real estate prices here are super expensive and I've heard it's much cheaper to get a house or apartment out in the Great Plains or Sourhwest. Would any /biz/raelis recommend it? Is there a financial sector I can be meaningfully employed in in these states or is it all concentrated in like New York, Boston, Chicago, etc? I can live with my parents if I don't find my own place, but I'd like the independence that comes with owning or renting my own place.

Bump. How do I move to the US inexpensively?
>>

there are financial services but not traditional ones like in the northeast

go to texas and its all energy (houston) and some corporate (dallas)

energy in OKC

WM in Arkansas

nothing in Kansas (jk HR Block I think?)

Denver does have industry but I'm unsure

tldr go research state employers by gdp or something

I lived in the midwest and southeast/west for a bit - theres a whole lot of nothing out there. always wanted to live in Denver though. or Wyoming, I hear that's gorgeous.

Look into Michigan: Ann Arbor, Livonia,Lansing and pretty much anything above 16 mi in metro Detroit are pretty ok. Those are generally mid-range areas for housing.

I moved to Denver this year and there are lots of opportunities. However, the city is getting more and more crowded/expensive...

Will I be able to score a position with my Econ/Finance background? I'm personally interested in commodities since it involves a lot of stuff about the applications of macro in the financial world, but it seems like all commodities have been doing really badly as of late, except for grains.

Michigan would be nice actually. Is there any place close enough to Illinois that I'd be able to commute reasonably to a position in Chicago?
>>

Also, aren't Berkshire Hathaway and TD Ameritrade centered in Nebraska?

Grand Rapids. Booming city atm.

Denver is nice. All of Colorado is nice, except for anything south of Colorado Springs. But if OP is trying to look for cheaper housing, Colorado is not the place to go, especially not Denver.
