segwit will not increase the btc network speed. it simply enables the lighting network which wont be ready until 2018. increasing block size by x2 only buys you about a month before the network slows back down.

best case, btc is going to crash hard. worst case it crashes harder.

they're getting quadratically slower and a block size increase would be a linear speed up. bitcoin is literally fucked and segwit has been sold as a scaling solution when it's really just a hack that allows the lightning network.

imagine waiting 3 to 5 weeks to open up a payment channel and THEN being able to make transactions slightly slower than with eth. that's the lightning network. and it won't even be ready until late 2018.

in practice that's only like a 20%-30% speed increase to something like getting bitcoin off an exchange or sending it to a friend.

do you have any idea how bad proof of work scales? normally i wouldn't be worried, but after seeing the shit show going on, i highly doubt bitcoin can successfully move from proof of work to proof of stake ever, let alone within the next year when transactions start taking weeks.

bitcoin isn't just getting slower. the rate at which it's getting slower is growing rapidly. it's looking really, really bad and this is coming from something who has held bitcoin for years as basically the one true coin.

except there will be 5-10 coins that all use segwit and the lightning network, they will all be linked through this second layer and will moon hard.

no need for 1 blockchain to have gb blocks when you can have multiple chains linked together with multiple layers.
