hi /biz/ i need advice.
im a underacheiver in terms of academics.
especially math and physics.

i however do well in business and math as i have an interest in those subjects.

im a bit adhd, hate long projects and am instict driven.

i enjoy playing poker and since you need math to succeed in a traditional career could i make a living off poker if i get very good at it?

would you recommend this?
>>
Absolutely, my cousin plays poker professionally and also has ADHD.

He frequently makes trips to Vegas and makes a lot of money each time.
>>
>>2617150
people think im joking or disprove saying its gambling or that you need to be mathematically smart to succed in it.

if i push myself i could learn mathematics but motivation becomes the issue,

how hard is it to become good at poker?
do you think i can make a living from iit once i enter university? (with enough skill)

crypto is a better opportunity. if you have what it takes to make money playing poker you should have a much easier time just trading crypto right now
>>
>>2617122

>>

I was just shit posting bro
>>
Pokerfag here. The best poker players know which table to sit at because of how stupid some players are. A good poker player has to be able to read players through social engineering and also how much they bet and when. Try online poker and try to get reads based on action
>>
>>2617122
>a bit adhd
>am instinct driven
Don't bother playing poker, you will just make emotional decisions and be a fish to a player with superior statistical/range understanding. You'll get 3bet all day
>>
I played poker for like 7 years
but last 2 years not so much

Most players know how to play these days

It's just not profitable anymore

Of course, you still can be little better by making fewer mistakes
But you will see ROI of maybe 2-3 %

You absolutely can make a living with Poker ,my cousin did it and he has ADHD but like you ,he is very smart at maths and other sciences.

You can easily make a living playing poker my friend.
>>
>>2617697
Wait bro I suck at math, your brother in the other hand was good at math?
>>
>>2617122
I used to talk with someone who had been doing online poker as a full time job for about a year.

It can be done, but just know you really have to adjust to uneven income.
>>
It was essentially printing money back in the 2000's when people were shit and American players could play on all the sites. Nowadays, even the worst microstakes players understand the fundamentals, and American casuals/whales can't play on the big sites. It's a lot harder to make money, and you can't easily make $50,000 a year grinding micros anymore.

Was an online poker filled with third-party software cheating?
I'm not good at math and computers so I wouldn't know how to exploit that

People think poker is all math, it's so far from the truth.

The person who got me into business related stuff was my best friend who's a poker pro, it's one of the hardest jobs out there. It's extremely voltatile, hard work, long hours, lots of traveling.

>Math helps, but doesn't make or break anything
>You having ADHD will hurt you in the long run, I have it myself and I don't think I could sit down at a poker table for 8 hours.
>Being "good at math" is a plus, but doesn't make or break it
>You need actual poker skills, not just basic math and probability.
>To win big you have to bet big, $1,000- $5,000 buy-ins are average.
>You need to have an actual poker face. My friend would probably eat you alive.

Being a pro poker player is being a professional gambler, it's not easy.

Poker face is just looking emotionless and intimidating?

Crypto is mathematical autism, they hire quantitative people as traders for a reason
>>
>>2617122
>im a bit adhd, hate long projects and am instict driven.
woah, sounds like a recipe for success!
>>
>>2617820
You would be surprised
>>
Was a pro poker player for 8 years. Quit 2 years ago.

The game is dead now. Making over $40k a year is really difficult.

It is a bad idea to start now.
>>
>>2617797
You can avoid the intimidating part, it's poker, not MMA
>>
>>2617850
What the fucking can I do then, should I sell drugs
>>
>>2617869

Well I learnt to write software when poker went to shit.

It's pretty boring but the pay is ok.

Maybe do that?
>>
>>2617718

of course he good at math

that video demonstrates what the quality of play was like in the glory days of online poker. You missed the online poker boom by about 15 years. Long gone are the days when a semi-decent player could make millions with a standard ABC tag style. Online poker is no longer a cash machine, these days, it's a fucking grind. Even the idiots are semi-competent. They might not understand why they do what they do but they're mimicking the regs on training sites, using tracking software, and that's enough to lessen your edge considerably - assuming you devote enough time to studying and mastering the game to actually develop an edge.

You can try live poker. The standard of play there is pretty low. But that is a grind as well because you get way less hands per hour. You might be sitting on your ass, 8 hours a day in some shitty casino next to drunk, degenerate gamblers. If that's your idea of a fun time, then go ahead.

I wasn't born 15 years ago fuck!!

tuff fish is an extinct species. Guys like him, spewing off stacks at 5000NL? They don't exist anymore.

I remember hearing a story from a guy who was successful during the partypoker days, he'd be like, "OK, I want to go party in Europe for a couple of weeks, so I play Mon - Thur and I'll be able to book a first class ticket on Friday and have some spending money too". The desktop poker client was their own, personal ATM.
>>
>>2618397
>tuff fish is an extinct species.
bumhunted to extinction, lel

these videos are gold, i'm too young to have ever gotten into the 2000s online poker craze and only play for entertainment but these are still hilarious, thanks for sharing them
>>
I'm a professional poker player since 6 years, playing NL400-2k (with some 5k shots in the past)
Are you already beating small stakes? What game are you playing? Are you planing on playing live or online? Are you US based.
Its still possibly with a lot of work ethic, but it is getting toigher every year
If you have questions ask away

Can I make money from poker as a side or do I have to dedicate my time completely to even make significant money
>>
>>2618646
The less you play the more capital you'll need to play bigger. I just read through this thread and based on your responses I encourage you to come start your career in Tampa FL. The games here are easy and you'll likely clean up. I'll be happy to lose to you when you arrive.
>>
>>2618166
what's bad about this play?

how are you meant to get away from a stronger set?
>>
>>2618696
Not reply but I live in Tampa. Where are these easy games? The Hard Rock?
>>
>>2617238
Only if you do it in a smart manner. Aka do not play in a Casino, know how to play well, and play against noobs 24/7?

How do you achieve this? Private poker games hosted by clubs, community events, rich friends, etc...

It really helps if you live in a wealthy area such that people don't care about losing 1K here or there.

Almost everyone I know has the wrong mindset about poker. They play with fees and equally autistic opponents. They almost always end up breaking even or losing money. Capitalism is all about avoiding competition and taking advantage of stupid people with money.

I made 27K playing poker at the country club during my highschool years, and considering I only went there are played a few tables on Saturdays, I'd say it was time well spent.
>>
>>2618944
man you are a genius.

would you say casinos are good for practice tho?
