I'm thinking more like 95%, the only people I know that understand even the basics of crypto and blockchains are the friends I have taught.
Traders often don't understand anything fundamentally, it's unfair just to pick on crypto. You simply need a frequently traded market, with big players to provide the backbone of liquidity. Opportunists and "dumb money" are present in all markets. It also doesn't help that crypto is full of buzzwords and bullshit, just like so many other things in IT sorta stuff.

Good point, a great example would be my parents that have mining and communications stock despite knowing little of either, they just brought whatever had historical returns.
