Thought of a great idea
An exchange online but for gemstones and some rare metals. All the gems will be backed by a digital currency used on the echange. You can cash out anytime and get your gemstones sent to you, but you probably keep them at the tradehouse and trade from home
fuck this idea is so good, it would increase volatility of gems and make make them a better investment. Too bad I cant do jack shit

You mean gemstone commodities? This won't work because they aren't standardized and objectively quantifiable in a mass market way. Gradings are semi-subjective and often fudged. There are infinitely many variations of every gemstone. Simple elements work fine like gold and silver because all that matters is purity and this is easy to quantify
With gemstones many things matter - cut, clarify, polish, specific shape, exact color, impurities, geographical source, historical significance - etc. This is impractical
Also with diamonds for instance, they're basically controlled by a monopoly not the free market
Nice idea but it's not new and it won't work
