It is POSSIBLE for it to happen, but that depends on the various pools for the various coins.
Despite the shilling for LTC, a chinese pool owns >50% of the hashing power, which means it can put out whatever kind of chain it wants.

And all the transactions are in the blockchain, so what you have is transactions that point at your address having coins.
Those transactions are in everyone's computer (everyone with the full blockchain)
If someone has 51% of the hashing power though, they could theoretically make up new transactions, and double-spend.
