Who else /looking into options to rent servers and make passive income running VPN nodes/ here?

Mysterium general.
>>
Friendly reminder that if you're not getting into this while it's still at ~50M market cap you're never going to make it.
>>

Current Bittrex situation pic related.

My guess is this week.
>>
>>2477913
Also idk what the telegram situation is like but the slack is pretty active, it's where I'm getting all my info.
>>
This is unironically the best buy of summer 2017.

My friend works in IT & he's all over this shit. He actually plans on buying server hardware & running nodes from his garage.
>>
>>2477904
Where do you see market cap?
>>
its already out on liqui.io. small exchange but quite reliable when i used it.
>>
>>2477993
Total supply is 32M:
https://ethplorer.io/address/0xa645264c5603e96c3b0b078cdab68733794b0a71

Actual circulating supply is only 19M for the first year (rest is locked by devs for at least a year) so there's tons of room for growth.
>>
I regret not buying more of this at ICO, lol
It honestly looks like really cool and interesting tech, rare for this kind of thing
>>
sitting at around 86k sat now. was in the 90k range before so its still a great buy
>>
Is this on any exchanges yet?
>>
I didn't know about this until now (not really in crypto), but if I understand it's a decentralized VPN that pays people that rent their servers in $MYST?

What are the cons in renting your servers? I mean if somebody uses my servers to do some serious illegal shit won't I become responsable?
>>
>>2478065
>I mean if somebody uses my servers to do some serious illegal shit won't I become responsable?

This is a solid question.

First of all there's already a precedent set by running TOR exit nodes. Thousands of people hosts these with no legal repercussions. There are exceptions, but it's only happened when people blatantly advertised their nodes as something to be used for illegal activity.

For example:
https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwiG37Pg3cPUAhUkyoMKHTcVDdYQFggoMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pcworld.com%2Farticle%2F2452320%2Ftor-exit-node-operator-convicted-of-abetting-spread-of-child-porn.html&usg=AFQjCNG7UWpUf8Y2uaeLNLG8ns8QQHjYzg&sig2=srGYzkMwaVexFCmZROWVHg
>In its verdict, the court cited transcripts of chat sessions uncovered during the investigation in which the defendant told an unidentified correspondent “You can host 20TB child porn with us on some encrypted hdds” and, in German, “You can host child porn on our servers” and “If you want to host child porn ... I would use Tor.”

As long as you don't straight up advertise yourself as running a node for criminals you're fine (as evidenced by the thousands of TOR hosts who haven't been convicted).

Additionally, I can see this take off in latin countries, Eastern europe, etc. where the internet is still a wild west.

Finally, I don't think this'll be primarily run by average joes renting out their connections. The real value here is that if you want to run a VPN business you can do it without having to set up the usual complicated infrastructure. You don't need to market your company, set up a website, a payment system, etc etc. You can just buy rent servers (without even giving your info if you're worried about legal complications), set up a node & have it running in no time. This is INCREDIBLY valuable.

Nice thinking

Can I buy on Polo?

>>
This project is actually interesting as fuck, never heard of this before, might be my first altcoin buy.

>>2478116
A shill with real arguments, impressive.
>>
To be honest with you, even I am also invested in tech project like BAT, Golem, STORJ and other. This is the only project I can see real use, huge market and actual use of tokens. I believe wholehearted in this project and probably will become an active user.
>>
>>2478324
Same. I also strongly believe in the team behind and their ability to execute on their plans.

That + the fact they've received a solid amount of funding at ICO. Very excited about this thing's future.
>>
>>2477885
fuck yeah I'm down for this shit. I looked through their github and saw you can launch this thing with a docker file. That means literal retards can get one of these up

You run 3 lines of code and it's up.

I'm still trying to figure out how compensation is determined from hosting a node. If any anons know it'd be appreciated. If it pays for itself I'll buy anonymous vps with bitcoin and launch 50
>>
whats the ico price of 1 MYST?
>>
>>2478431
A payment system is not yet up. ICO just ended a couple weeks ago so there's still a lot of work to be done.

You can run a node but not be paid for it yet. There are 400 up already:

>>
What is the expected pay out of a node? And can everyone become one?
>>
>>2478447
0.0049 ETH per MYST.
>>
>>2478469
>https://mvp.mysterium.network
thanks anon
>>
>>2478480
And how many do you earn per say day/week/month? Cant find a definitive anwser on it
>>
>>2478475

>What is the expected pay out of a node?
Pretty much impossible to predict at this stage. It'll depend on competition & how much demand there is.

>And can everyone become one?
In principle yes.
>>
>>2478500
Price will be set by node providers.
>>
>>2478480
200 MYST per ETH is a bit more readable
>>
>>2478518
Yeah, I just always assume people are looking to compare it to exchange prices where the ETH per MYST figure is what they're really after.
>>
>>2478534
I see, thanks anyway I didn't knew the price. Do we have any info on the future mining rewards? Still reading the whitepaper
>>
>>2478517
>>2478507
Cool thank you guys!
>>
>>2478431

From their site:

>How much will Mysterium cost per month or per mb of bandwidth for the end user?

>Cost ot Mysterium services will be defined by the node operators. Since this will create a phenomenon known as ‘perfect competition’ – we expect prices to be significantly lower than of current VPN providers.

This has potential to be pretty big. I have a lot of hope to stake high in this stuff since I'd run a node from South America that is still "free waters" concerning net regulation. I reckon it is going to be very profitable for everyone while also being cheaper than a centralized VPN. I also assume the centralized VPNs are not going to like you renting up their power and overselling it.

Besides, if ETH doesn't tank so soon and Golem takes off we're looking into an era of mainstream decentralized markets. Early adopters of this tech are going to reap large profits, just like the early believers in BTC, and I Intend to jump on the ship this time.

I want to drop $10k in this right now desu

Nice thanks for that anon.

You make me kinda want to buy more

wtf this is actually a jackpot

Thank you biz

Lolbertarian logic at its finest. Can't wait to see this shit exploited
>>
This is the first /biz/ shill that got me excited about a project. There is so much untapped potential here. Going through all the info on their website right now.
>>
Anyon know where can I buy this? Feel bad I missed the ICO.
>>
>>2478685
Only liqui.io right now.

Soon to be listed on Bittrex.
>>
Does anyone know the system requirements for a node?

Windows client isn't out yet so you'd need a linux system.

>>2478740

I understand both of these but I just want to get as cheap a vps up as I can for it. I probably shouldn't use one of the site s I have credit on though..
>>
>>2477904
why is that?
>>
>>2477885
just went all in
>>
>>2478757
I don't want to give you bs information, but if you head to the Mysterium slack (specifically the #MVP channel) you'll get a ton of help on everything related to running a node.
>>
This coin has it's barriers of course, but in my opinion very realistic for them to be overcome, some countries may face legal issues however most countries face hard exclusion from mining due to power prices, there will be areas where service can thrive.

But we have the issue of latency, both a gift and the curse. Latency means that serving locals can still be profitable even with higher power costs because something - speed - can be offered in return, but what if laws get in the way? What about us non CP users who just want a VPN for good reason? Will there any way to collect in agreement with the users whatever might be required by local law to operate a stable business?

If its just the likely case of an outlaw running a rogue node he might have to charge too much to be competitive with regular VPN due to the risk, in this case his node is going to end up entirely a shit funnel, this increases the risk of the cunt users being fucked in the ass by law enforcement who may be interested in commandeering the node.

Maybe it ends up being a slow as fuck CP mask run only out of bumfuck nowheres. I generally don't care what people use their coins or money for, that's up to them, but even if portifable I don't want to hodl a CP coin. If big legitimate businesses can be built on this though then I have high hopes for it.
>>
>>2478890
CP-type of shit is an issue with any kind of VPN / relay service but it's blown WAY out of proportion.
>>
>>2479099
Yeah but by complying with whatever laws such as logging connections they are protected. If mysterium has facilities for local protection then I could see there being a lane for bigger businesses to be built. Without it's always just going to be some criminal trying to fly under teh cops radar in SOME localities.
