Hey /biz/ I just graduated college (finance major) and had an internship last summer. The company decided to keep me on board and they said they were going to offer me a full time position. They stalled until the very end of the year, then made the offer and it was with horrible benefits and low salary (3k mo pre tax). I tried to negotiate salary and asked for some time to think about it. I spoke with boss today (two weeks after offer) and he pulled it back, saying that his company thought about it more and they aren't ready for that position. I will not be an employee at his company. My question for you guys is: what now? I would've networked and applied to more jobs during school but I thought I'd go back to working at the same place. Now I'm graduated and have nothing. I kept my composure and was very professional on the phone call, even though I was extremely upset. I'm trying to think logically but I'm still in shock. what is my best move at this point?

$3000 a month gross? That's like minimum wage. That's less than minimum wage in some places. You're better off not working for an exploiter like that.

Tell him your sorry it worked out that way but that you'd expected more. Be nice about it. Ask if he'll sign, or offer revisions and sign, a letter of recommendation which you've drafted and attached to save him time in the event he's willing.
Ask him to keep you in mind if the company changes its stance on the position and wish him the best of luck.
Learn the lesson that it's always your responsibility to hustle as though your life depends on it, regardless of what people tell you they are going to do for you. Sometimes you can't even trust yourself to look out for you, never trust others to do it.
