Hey guys I haven't really researched this coin so apologies in advance if it's a silly question, but why would a user pay to use this platform to watch e.g pornhub or netflix when they can already mostly access it for free online?

And in the case of being a YouTube, videos would likely still be free except for 1/10 premium videos that the creator would ask for a micro payment. If there was any advertising revenue then this would go to the content creators rather than 40% to YouTube. Or 100% to YouTube in the case of pewdiepie who got dwmonetised for "offensive content"
This would be the free speech platform

How will this last with copyright laws?

I bootleg a movie, and post it for a few credits.

scan a few books, and post it for more credits.

How will all of this be factored into it?

The developers are developing the LBRY protocol and the LBRYapp.

The blockchain protocol is not controlled, like SMTP email protocol is not controlled. The app that interfaces to it is controlled and can boot people off who are copying.
Now, this doesn't stop anyone developing Thier own app to interface to to the data stored in the blockchain and accessed securely by private keys...
Something will work out, but it probably will be like the wild west for a while in this regard.
