The thing is, I just use BTC to trade with stacking more BTC, the price rise is just a nice bonus.

Then you have ETH, a big-cap slow gaining coin like BTC but it has so few pairs with such low volume that you can't really use it for trading.

Holding ETH is just like holding BTC, it gains so slowly it doesn't really make sense unless you can use it as a base currency for trading, which you can.

Until it gets more pairs ETH will always be an altcoin.
