You can't lose trustless coins like bitCNY or bitUSD or bitBTC, one gateway/bridge can go offline, but another one can be used to cash out some tokens (openledger vs blocktrades). In fact, they want more people to create more gateways to add more altcoins, and if you make one you can earn on fees.
