I have recommended NEXUS from a little over 5 cents, down to 2-3 cents late last year. Doing well now.

Have made huge mistakes too. Bought ETH just under $1, sold after the hack for $11-$12. Sold 500,000 DGB for almost no profit a couple months ago. Sold 100,000 XEM for .88 BTC a couple months ago, too.

There may be something to this "HODL" stuff. ;)

I've been doing trades a little more than a week and already got almost 100% up. Are you guys sure that being diverse is good?
At the start all I was more diverse but the coins I expected to rise did but the ones who I guessed would rise the most also did and all that diversifying did to me was make me lose some gains. Then I started going 60/20/20 and 60/40(like I am now) and I started to go far.
Is steady climb better than crazy roller coaster of death from hell?

I was idle for 2 days(from 3 to 5) to check how well the HODL meme does.
Other than that at the start I was constantly looking at dips, right now I eat up 2~3 dips(mostly because when I see it the dip is almost halfway through, if I see that the pattern is repeating and I'm at the exact top of the latest pattern I hop off unless it has been going low lately, just like I did with 1ST few hours ago)
About 2 hours a day looking at the exchange, looking for dips, switching coins, etc.
One hour(I skip some days, other days I do three hours) studying coins and how their dev teams are doing, then the ones that I consider too good for their market cap go into my mental network of "coins I'd buy depending on the dip/order book/pattern/etc".
I also lurk at biz a lot but mostly only get ideas of what coins to study through you guys.

Tip for anyone getting started with only a few thousand, don't diversify or hold 50% btc or any of that shit, it'll take you far to long to get money by just holding 1 btc or a couple eth, buy 2 or 3 coins that are undervalued and wait until they explode.

I don't think that's worth to have BTC with you hold so little of it.
Sell your ripple for something else.
Dash is solid, but honestly I prefer its fork, PIVX, which is probably one of the most underrated coins imo.
I personally don't see much future on Golem and don't know what PASC is.

Monero and ETH are God-tier for long term hold. BTC is as well, but you hold too little of it.

You also hold too little of Sia, Ripple, STR, Golem, LTC and etc. You don't need to diversify that much if you aren't a rich fag because, let's say Sia manages to have a 100% price increase, that would leave you with what? $43, which is nothing.

Thx for a well written response m8. I don't get your argument against diversification, tho. Why does the usual argument in favor of it does not scale to the case of small fishes like me? Obviously it'd be great to invest greater amounts of money in lesser number of coins that are bound to 100% increase in price, but it seems that actually no one has an idea which ones are these.

I actually did a little of statistics some time ago. I invested exactly 1 ETH in all these altcoins (i.e. ones not being ETH and BTC on liked screenshots) on poloniex weeks ago. It seems that they collectively do a little better than ETH let alone. Namely, price of 1 ETH is $254.26 and my poloniex balance is $265.56 and this trend is more or less stable over time (despite occasional peaks of ETH price). That's pretty ok result overall, I guess. Obviously I could make over $1000 of this 1 ETH but how could I know how to pick the right coins?

today is my first day on /biz/ since august last year, started altcoin trading april last year. looked for some screenshots of my calls from last year but sadly my laptop got purged so can't find them, i can at least tell you they were sick. one of the biggest retard opinions on the site for example was $dgb praise, that coin fell 70% over 7 months before it started pumping, and i was telling everyone to stay the fuck away. and yes i bought its bottom.

all i will say is you guys are so far behind the curve it's hilarious. i see you all owning coins that are being shilled to get strong hands in but they're not even close to pumping. crypto is very high atm, you don't want to sit there with assets that are improbable to mature in less than 5 weeks because so many things can put your coins in a 1 year bear/breakeven market and you will end up selling. you are all in coins that wont get an exit pump if that breakeven market happens.

yes i'm in some of these coins already now too, but that's because i got fucking rich this past year and need long term crypto plays within tech like IPFS etc to store $ and diversify into.

here's my advice to small time guys who think they're getting in early etc atm, pick up the edging coins. the coins that are guaranteed to pump within 4 weeks and if crypto implodes in whatever way before that is guaranteed an exit pump very quickly. Stuff like $LBC and $FLO will guaranteed double your money in the next couple of weeks. If altcoin markets crash and bitcoin markets crash they will exit pump and you will get your money back.

It's kinda going against my own advice though as I have absolutely no idea when that one is gonna go up. best advice is find smart people on twitter. just remember that people post shit when they've already accumulated and when they're tired of waiting for the pump. since you respect them you know it's a sound coin, mark it off in your mind, follow the graphs and volume and then buy when a move is looking imminent.
Look at what the people you respect like on twitter regularly. this way you'll find coins they aren't shilling yet and you'll find the people they respect. I can't be bothered doing much of my own research anymore i just use twitter and my network.

That's why I am saying that you should put into 5 different coins, it's not good to put all your eggs into just one basket, however, it's also not worth to use an entire basket for just half egg. In the case of Syscoin for example, do you think it's worth to have $14 on it? Even if it jumped to $1, which would be insane, you would only make $72 out of it. You will not make big gains if you do not put big investments imo, in which case, I think it's wiser to make compromises and make a tight selections of coins that you believe to have potential to grow.

Looking from another perspective, let's say you pick all the coins from >>2342477 and put their gains into Siacoin, in this case your would have around a $125+ investment on It. Now, let's say that Siacoin has major gains in the next days and it goes from the current 500 sats to 2000 sats, you would turn your $125 into $500 in this case. However, as it currently is, if that were to happen you would only make $84. You can say that ''ok , but what if my Siacoin don't go up?'', sure your coin may not go up, you are risking, but here's the thing: You will never make big gains without big investments, or in other words, without somewhat big risks. To put it in another perspective, this is a bullish market and every coin ends up having major price increase, especially ones with potential, so I think even if you don't always have gains with your coin, it's worth to hold a good amount of them since it will likely have a price increase in the future.

And what you said about ETH. ETH is an stable coin and it's not likely to have a major spike like It did last month, thus why it's secure, it increases steadily over time. IMO it's only worth to invest on BTC and ETH if you do not hold a good amount of both.
