How to start in crypto today

Use coinbase to buy some btc/eth, transfer it to bittrex and start buying digibyte and ark

I use coinbase, but wire transfers take about 5 days. You could pay high fees to get instant bitcoins via credit card or localbitcoins.com, but if you have big boy money I'd stick with wire transfers

Are wire transfers the only way without a credit card? Not OP and i live in a third world country

Does coinbase cover many different currencies?
If I wanted some odd ones? I cant' see a list of supported currencies anywhere
