Any advice regarding when it's profitable to short a cryptocoin?
I would guess when you see a parabole that looks like it's lasting too long

if it just went up a stupid amount, like ETH did, and then stagnated/bleed out a litttttle bit for 2 days~ like ETH. Also if it's called ETH
short eth

Don't short anything. That's dangerous as fuck.

Crypto is so damn unpredictable. Short when Polo goes Gox on us

Don't.
Shorting is a dangerous game in a mania bubble market.
Sure it'll go down eventually, but being too early with leverage is the same as being wrong and you could lose it all
I've been experimenting with a very small margin account on poloniex and it is FUCKING ASTONISHING how frequently I'm wrong. A crypto will breakout and go up 30%, start dipping and as soon as I take a short position the thing has another 20% run. It's fucking insane. Every indicator I use tells me that the price is going to go down and keep going down and I'm always coming in at the wrong time and have to close at a loss

30% is like...normal...
why the fuck would you short something like that? Short shit like ETH or DGB

Only short a coin with massive volume.
Learn how to use an exponential moving average to indicate when to sell and when to buy.
Note: this only works on coins that bounce up and down a predictable zone of support and resistance. Do not attempt to use this on coins that are slated to moon, or decline.
