Why do Bakeries have the highest failure rate out of businesses?

Because most bakeries are trying to handle special orders for the most part. They get started up by women that think they can just make a bunch of cakes all day and play with the frosting and all that. Problem is, you don't get people wanting cake that often.

Some tried doing things a bit differently by doing cupcakes so that they could mass produce something small that people could eat in a sitting, but there's not that many locations where it makes sense. Maybe around some higher end restaurants that make it reasonable to go out afterwards for some small high end treat.

What some bakeries will do though, is they'll sell dessert items to restaurants. So you'll never walk into such a bakery and purchase something as they don't even setup some storefront. They just do everything in the back and are sending items out.

Also the idea that all America is fat as fuck is a bit misleading as there's an aging population plus Hispanics/blacks who are often overweight. Places to buy cake would hardly be popular in those circumstances.

What's truly odd is that there aren't many bakeries that deal in bread.

Bread can be made in massive amounts by a proper baker with relative ease in comparison to something like a cake. I suspect this is why bakeries do so poorly, they don't come out with items like bread that you'd eat everyday that could then tempt the buyer to get something else like a confection.

It's usually the poor people who are fat, because they can't afford/aren't educated about nutritious food and live such shitty lives that they console themselves with calories which is a lot cheaper than say buying Louboutin shoes or flying to Majorca.

Things like understanding demand, opportunity cost, profit margins, etc. Hell, most of the time these women don't even know that they shouldn't bake because their family isn't going to tell them their cooking tastes like shit.
