This is a multi-tier mission that relies on the inevitable decline of BTC owing to its limitations coupled with the advantages and many potential uses of ETH. It isn't a shitcoin, so its value isn't in P&D but in accumulating.

Don't get too hasty. Bitcoin will eventually eat shit, it'll just take time to fall off the market coz it's so ingrained in crypto users. As it slips the money has to go somewhere and at this point it's just a matter of when and where, and ETH looks like a suitable successor. As far as short term goes, should I hold ETC even throughout the peak during the upcoming conferences/demos? Or do you all think there might be a big enough dip that you could make a quick buck buying back into after temporarily selling at the peak?

somebody already managed to write virus signatures to the blockchain a couple months ago. scanning the blockchain will yield a false positive for the duqu virus. i know it's a leap to go from this to what i said, but this somebody doing something malicious that was unintended by the developers and scares the shit out of me.

XRP has really knocked the wind out of it but I reckon ETH is still good for a bit more. Sitting so far back in 3rd now though it's either going to take a hard XRP landing or some ETH projects taking flight to be eligible for rocket momentum again though, some solid announcements might get it a bit of a pump.

If BTC were to take a dive now more of that is likely to be bailed on XRP than ETH. That said, from what I've found out ETH is still the more known of the two among the chinks, they will probably however be starting to take note of XRPs numbers, it's a toughish call.

The capabilities of the two really don't matter all that much for now as they arn't direct competitors.

BTC also jumped 5% in an hour and ETH just went with it. The current sell down is accumulation. Long periods of price suppression followed by sharp buys. It's meeting a lot of resistance at the $85-90 mark, that's about as low as people are willing to part with their ETH.
Whoever is manipulating the price now is going to find it harder and harder going.

I personally sold my XRP and half my DGB profits to buy more down at 472 and 476, seemed a no-brainer.

Is everyone forgetting Ripples plan to make XRP less volatile than any other coin? They've already started pulling their coins out so i think we won't see it drift far off its current price. Allow me to explain why that is not possible.

Your money is stored in a wallet with a private key that only you (and your computer) knows. There's no way to crack this key and it would take millions of years for computers today to decrypt a single wallet.

However, there could definitely be malicious smart contracts, just like in real life; if you sign a contract without reading it, you are bound to do as the contract says. If you accept a smart contract that otherwise screws you in per say: a casino, then you will lose to the dealer.

smart contracts are just agreements between two users, and the agreement cannot be dishonored because it's pre-written by the blockchain. It cannot be modified by you or the owner.

It really just depends on the application, I use the casino example a lot because it's the easiest one. There's a lot of trust involved in casinos, ETH is the perfect solution with smart contracts that neither the casino and the user can modify. This means the winner gets to keep the money securely.

I don't doubt in the future we will have access to these contracts to see how they are written, but until we start seeing more common applications that use them, it's still pretty much in proof of concept right now. Although some applications like golem are about to release their progress to the world (brass golem). ETH is basically still a baby, and it's already planned to be the internet 3.0.
