As for what you should read, it really depends on how much you know about cryptocurrency. The general consensus is that you should find out about the history of Bitcoin and generally how it works. Then read about the more technologically advanced and up to date crypto that competes directly with Bitcoin - Litecoin. After that, move onto the more interesting stuff by researching Ethereum (ETH) and Golem (GNT).

Also very important, research China's relationship with Bitcoin.
