Also maybe swing trading for dummies, beginners books on your subject is a good starting point. Swing trading allows for more flexibility than day trading but more profit over a shorter time than buy and hold.
Once you find some compelling stocks, you can buy dips and sell spikes so that you can profit as the market fluctuates, just don't get greedy and try it out on a paper account first.
