You buy btc from a guy and localbitcoins works as an escrow service and holds the coins until you confirm. There are people there with thousands of cionfirmed trades. Coinbase and krkaen takes days to process while localbitcoins takes a few hours.

bitcoin atms are shit. set up a trade on paxful or localbitcoins. you must provide photo ID to the trader though because of FINTRAC regulation. they have to email ID of all customers on a monthly basis or risk having their assets frozen. find a high rep trader that has a good rate.
