get CS or math degree. learn rails or node. apply to jobs. pretty easy in the first world if you're not an idiot. use michael hartl's book if you want to learn rails. i hate node so you'd have to ask someone into it for where to start.

Well step one is making threads on 4chan with trite questions. You'll make it just fine wagecuck

You have a few major options
>get degree and work at one of the large fortune 100 companies
>get degree and work at a web dev shop for similar salary
>attend coding bootcamp and *possibly* get a job
I say "possibly" in that last one since bootcamp grads statistically have a smaller hiring rate than formal degree holders.

Either way you do it, it also depends on where you're located. Most of the high paying software jobs are hyper local and centered around the current tech hubs (Seattle, San Francisco, New York, maybe Atlanta depending on your area of expertise). And even if you're in the same general area, a 30+ mile distance in the "wrong" direction between you and one of these hubs can make your job prospects go to near zero.

For example, I live in a city in Washington that hasn't been absorbed into the tech scene yet. As such, my CS degree is useless job wise unless I can get a company in Seattle or Bellevue to relocate me (or, at the very least, be buss-able).

I work as a developer and didnt gotoschool or get a degree. Most CS grads dont actually have just as hard of a time as alot of bootcamp 'grads' right out of school. Experience is almost always chosen over formal education.

That said, pick a web development stack (I suggest javascript (node) and work your way up through to frameworks

You get experience by helping out open source projects on github. You dont typically get paid, but its well worth the effort.

Then, post a decent CV on dice and recruiters will start calling you. Write code everyday and keep submiting pull requests to open source projects you are interested in, and eventually you will get hired.

I live in SF / bay area so it might have been a little easier for me, so ymmv
