thinking of just buying up a bunch of high dividend stocks before the cut off date, and earning money two weeks later.
This seems too good to be true. What could go wrong? I never tried the dividend strat before.

nah, some companies will pay dividends just to keep investors happy, even if it means fucking their financials sometimes. they are interested in the short term not the long term, because investors want short term profit. but if you can diversify properly, its a good low-risk strategy desu.
