I'm under the impression that anyone with above average intelligence (not a genius) can get a four-year, go to any graduate school, and then make good money in finance.
Is this true?

College doesn't guarantee a job. I wouldn't do it again.

Not at all.
All business is contacts.
Also some areas of finance are figurative sweatshops. The wage or commission rate are dismal.

Bumping this, also interested. How did all of you no-college-fags get started? Almost everything I see requires a degree of some sorts
Throwing in my two cents.
I grew up poor. Managed to graduate from a decent university. Didn't network at all. No contacts.
Went to get a help desk position, ended up helping with database and programming things in that company.
Now I'm doing business intelligence for a major energy company, making more money than I really know how to spend.
College sucked for a variety of reasons, mostly because I worked full time the whole time there. I guess it got me considered more quickly for this role, though.
Anyway, how possible is it?
