Let's get some chatter about actually making money here. What kinds of businesses do you own, /biz/?
I've been considering starting a brick-and-mortar business to get away from my $1k/mo. lifestyle. My brother is a carpenter and wants to start a construction business where I am the "business/networking/office guy" and he swings the hammer. He'd like to go commercial immediately and I'm not sure that is such a good idea, because it's tough to re-brand as commercial from residential.
Are there any anons in construction here? What do you recommend in terms of bidding on commercial jobs? What is your process?
>inb4 family and money don't mix
>legal documents state 50/50 debt/profit stake regardless of ownership

If he wants to go commercial, just go commercial. Being an actual carpenter, he probably knows more about the industry than you do, dumbass.

well that depends. Is he a Master Carpenter. If not tell him to fuck off until he is one then go in business.
I also tried starting a cleaning business not too long ago, fell flat on its face even though it's a large market. Too many people accepting bids at immigrant rates.

True, but he has like 5 years of experience and not actually a licensed journeyman so that may be an issue. Never went through an apprenticeship program but I'm betting he'd pass an exam easily.
