bitfinex withdrawals have been shut down by intermediary banks, and tether is basically operated by the same people as bitfinex, so there's no way to currently get 1 usd for 1 usdt unless you live in one of the small shitty countries that have yet to block usd withdrawals.

if you want to take a bet on bitfinex you can buy up usdt but youre risking that bitfinex won't be able to get withdrawals working again for western customers.
