Where can I find consistent work that can be automated, like data entry for example? I've written my own scripts to automate work for me in video games, which I've spent 9 months improving which is now perfectly flawless... I sell gold in the game, but the money isn't really much. So, I've been thinking that I could probably do the same for other things. I'm by no means a professional programmer or anything, so I doubt I could get hired anywhere.

What do you use to code them ?
You can find that type of work on freelancing websites =)

Python, (I'm a Biochemistry undergrad student though, so I also am learning bioinformatics on the side).

Also, I'm not really sure where to begin without experience...

Why don't you start selling the script itself?
Also, I feel like we may be kindred spirits since I've been working on a project automating collection of all the court cases in the USA. I have plenty of ideas of automating content collection and then just publishing it with ads, but not really the time to work on it. I write up my plans, but never have the time to actually build shit. If you send me a way to contact you, I may email you some day just to chat or offer a possible way of making profit, or even a contract. Let me know if you may be interested, but I can't promise anything.

Good luck in looking for work

Each script I sell would have to be custom made and I don't think anyone would really be willing to buy it considering the small userbase of the game. It only generates me $50- $100/month.
I think I already have an idea of how to do what you want. I'll e-mail you.

Ah, well the automating case collection is a propriety project for my employer not something I need help working on, sorry if I may have implied otherwise. I have other ideas for automated content collection. It's just hard to find time to work on side projects, since I work full time and also spend a good amount time investing in cryptos.

>proprietary not propriety

So a web scraper?
Also share some resources for automation, I'm pretty decent in python, would love to give it a go.

I feel you senpai, I actually just quit my job because they were working me 55 hours a week, which left me with no time to do anything since I spent all my waking hours working or at school/studying...It was a nightmare.
I'll still e-mail you just in case. My goal over the next two years is to have a portfolio of work that does itself, with minimal maintenance. In two years I will start hopefully doing research, so I don't think I will have much time after that to do this.

>I'm by no means a professional programmer or anything, so I doubt I could get hired anywhere.
Do programming work on Upwork or some other freelancer site.

If you enjoy doing this look into robotic process automation. The hype just started and they're paying pretty well for people with the right skills

>So a web scraper?
Yeah, basically my full time job, I already have it collecting 10 million + cases.
>Also share some resources for automation, I'm pretty decent in python, would love to give it a go.
I actually use PHP for automation. You should check out the JetBrains IDEs, they're really good.
https://www.jetbrains.com/phpstorm/
They have one for Python too.
https://www.jetbrains.com/pycharm/
Composer is a nice package manager, https://getcomposer.org/
I use Guzzle for doing the requests http://docs.guzzlephp.org/en/la
Then just crawl through the Dom using https://github.com/FriendsOfPHP/Goutte
Don't forget Regex for obscure stuff.
The hard part really isn't programming as much as just deducing the patterns and variations that target data can have and building a versatile program that can deal with failure. I also built a web scraper for SEC forms on
https://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/srch-edgar using java.
There is lots of public domain content that you can legally scrape and display.

It's kinda hard to make decent money since it's an international market. I used
https://www.freelancer.com/
But never found a project worth the pay they offered, of course you can take a look for yourself.
