I'm not saying that the market is right, but here's the thinking:
Remember when Nokia was THE phone maker., unless you were productive, then you had a Blackberry. They were the established companies, there was no reason for them to change. Then the iPhone came out. Now Apple and Samsung are THE phone makers and you hardly see Blackberries or Nokias anymore.

Basically Ford are already doing what Ford will do, they are a "dinosaur". Tesla, at least in the market's imagination, will do what smartphones did to traditional cell phones because it's a new technology, a sexy brand that can cannibalize the markets of GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota...

It's all about potential for growth. Ford can only go down, Tesla might go up.
