I have no clue where to even begin to gather information on this, to not lose everything I intend to invest.

But where do you get information on what to buy or sell?
With stock market and normal currencies you have some reference points what will probably happen, like quaterly reports or central bank statements and such. With crypto you do what? Look at graphs and hope for the best?

No, it's like a little like a pyramid scheme at this point.
Get in early and then shill the fuck out of your coin to get others in on it.
At some point one crypto will probably take off and become a widely-accepted currency. That crypto will blow the fuck up, and basically every new crypto is trying to become that. But the truth is that only one crypto will actually achieve that status. So until then just treat it as a pyramid scheme.
