This crypto bull market is insane. If there was an index fund of all the cryptos it would destroy the S&P500 or any other index
If you'd invested $1000 in PIVX at the start of the year it would be worth around $300,000 today

You wouldn't. But if you invested 1000 in each of the top 200 cryptos the PIVX gains would cancel out any losses - i.e. even if all the other cryptos went to ZERO (incredibly unlikely) you would still make 50% profit overall

There is an altcoin market index and historically it doesn't beat bitcoins returns. This might have changed with the recent surge in altcoins but generally the "buy all the altcoins" strategy isn't particularly profitable.
