Can I make money from fuel from algae?
Or is it really a meme

Most of the people "debunking" the idea demonstrate pretty quickly that they have no clue what they are talking about.
The other day I posted a thread here about it and someone started talking about how the "liquid fuel" that the algae expel is poisonous to the algae. Except that's not how most algal fuel is made, it's made by processing the algae itself through either a press (65% efficiency) or a chemical process (95% efficiency). You could make good money making biodiesel if you got a process down, but remember that you're trying to stick it to an establishment that has a large set of apparatus designed to stick it to you instead.

so what would I need to get a test rig going?
do you have experience with actually making cash with it?

No, I'm just a biochem/genetics major who took an interest in patenting my own strain.
For a test rig the cheap way to go would probably be an oil press and a tank (could be fresh or salt) and a sample of someone's algae, which is often patented and costs more for commercial than research purposes.

cool,
how do I make my own strain?

also, do you recommend artificial / natural light?
