Not even memeing here, genuine question. Does joining a "secret"

I knew some freemasons and got an offer to join, I didn't take them up on it but the general answer is it's community dependent. If the freemason members are wealthy/influential in the community, then yes it helps. If they are not, then it does not.

Strangely enough I was discussing this topic last night with a friend.
It's a community so you're basically interlocked to their ways.
It can make connections and be an affluent endeavor if you know what you're doing.
I'd imagine you'd already have to have some notable amount of money to essentially buy your way in though

I sent an email to a local chapter out of curiosity, they emailed me a few times to see if I was still interested after I didn't reply since I forgot about it. They're probably just a meme now if they're trying to get people that badly :/.
