Sorta hit the nail on the head. I disagree with OP's alcohol comment too much spending on it is a mistake but using alcohol to network and build relationships is needed. A lot easier to sell if everyone's tipsy
>>
>>1930416
Basically anything that accrues interest is a huge reason people stay poor because they don't look at the long-term
>>
>>1930455
OP here. My bad, yeah my intended statement was more against the general abuse of alcohol. I don't deny it's power help make friends and influence people.
>>

How much do you think people donate that it affects they're financial situation? I work in fundraising and 75% of all gifts are below $50... Let's say they invest that $50 for 10 years at 10% (exciting I know, also annuity because might as well) that's gonna be less than $800 at the end. How is that going to make you poor?

Donating money you don't have would but people don't do that...

Stretching a purchase over x amount of time is not nessecarily disadvantageous economically. Only retards would claim this.
Many times by paying small fees you can take caer of your nesecities right now without throwing away all our money, thus being able to make more with it, as long as you can make it more profitable than the interest you lose for using credit.

NEETs showing.

The #1 thing keeping people in lower-middle class is FUCKING EATING OUT.

Most of my friends making 2-3k after tax a month feel rich and eat out for lunch every day, 4 evenings a week and have brunch on sunday.

That's 10-15$ for lunch, 40-50$ for evening and another 40$ for brunch.

Being conservative it amounts to 1040$ dollars spent every month. Then add in rent, car and mobility expenses, phone bill and other random shit and you'll find a guy making 2500$ after tax living paycheck by paycheck.

I hate them.

>>1930936

The issue is if you are like my grandmother. She is a lovely, generous and kind woman... but her debt management is horrific, and she passed it somewhat onto my mother. Sure, we get gifts out of it, but using 'pay nothing and no interest for x months' deals just to forget about them for that long means she is always paying something off with super interest rates. That said, I think she is counting on passing away before having to pay everything off, missing the fact it will likely come out of the inheritence.

I'm trying to break away from the 'keeping myself poor' mindset as best I can.'grew up' sometime last year, and honestly don't know how I can help my family.

Trying to point out that if we just build a buffer fund for the monthly bills, my dad wouldn't be stressed out and irritable around bill week due to not being sure the lump sum (the household living money) that can't be touched on pain of death will be enough. It's the bill equivilent of living paycheck to paycheck. If I reasonably point out that $300 saved up and put into the bank, and what is used replaced every time and not touched, we could not have the monthly drama.
>>
>>1930416
Not properly budgeting. I don't know many people who add up the amount they spend on necessities per month and set aside the proper funds. All I ever see is reckless spending and then groveling and begging for more money or time come bill time.

Lease for work, particularly trucks
>>
>>1932536
Not really to my knowledge, my family (when I was a kid) used to lease a vehicle, however that was when the family was growing into its final size (3 siblings plus me). It wasn't wise to buy a car at any point, since we would end up outspacing it. Once the last kiddo came, a car was bought.

We had that car, and then two used cars (at different times) that were used for in-city transit.

That one car they bought is almost 10 years old, and hasn't experienced any trouble from what I know. They told me it would have paid for itself close to two times what a lease would have been in a year.

If you intend to move or relocate before the lease period is up than it makes sense to do so.

Also, you may want to lease a car when you have a seasonal or market dependent job that requires you to drive around clients (Real Estate Agent, Insurance Salesman, etc.)
>>
>>1932536
A car depreaciates in wealth super quickly, it basically loses most of its worth over a span of 5 years. So if you want a new car you might as well lease it, and lease a new one, once the old lease expires.

Yes, but they can easily save a vast amount of money, and have a vast amount in investments. You can only smoke so many cigarettes, drink so much alcohol, take so many drugs, screw so many hookers, therefore the ratio of expenditure compared to someone on a pittance is vastly different.

ergo..they have way more money, and can do way more, and still save, and invest.

no you're wrong, most of your tax money goes to the Military who buys guns bombs and tanks. 1% of total federal tax goes towards people with disability, welfare, food stamps, and other social programs.

A good chunk of the actual pie goes towards blowing people up.

And in a capitalist/republic disguised for what it really is (an oligarchy of wealthy hand me down families that run everything.... like every powerful nation)

their prime objective which is to blow up lesser fortunate countries that can pose threats. So be it a communist/democratic/socialist/ All of it is still capitalism which are all branches of monetary government.

You're gunna get someone taking your money if it's a nazi or your nabour, at least the nabour can enjoy your 3 cents a month you give him from your check for his * muh back* well the rest of it goes to allahu-akbar for oil.

First two things that come to mind:
>Gambling
>Buying the latest iPhone

But I want to get a little deeper. I think the biggest cause of people wasting money is when they try to fulfill basic needs, but are misguided in how they try to fulfill them, usually because really good marketers have hijacked the reward process that comes with the need. I'll go through the Maslow pyramid, bottom to top, for some examples:

>We all need to eat, but people who eat a lot of processed food start to associate the craving for fat and sugar with their hunger, so whenever they get hungry, instead of just needing satiation, they think they specifically need to be stuffed with burgers.
>We usually have our need for safety fulfilled in the first world, but marketers can just scare you and then offer you a product that protects you from their artificial threat.
>People who think that buying a specific brand of products means joining a "club". What they really want is a sense of belonging in a group, but they've been convinced that how they spend their money defines their group, and how much they defines how much they belong.
>Buy a really expensive car, feel like the king of the world. But whoops, your neighbor bought an even more expensive car, now you're just a pleb. Better save up for your next car. It's so fucking transparent and people still fall for it.
>You wanna achieve greatness? You're gonna need a prestigious college degree. I mean, no one who's serious about their goals expects to get there for free, right?

tl;dr:
>buying shit you don't need
>>
Eating out is my biggest expense. I think I spend between 2k-3k, and I know I need to learn how to cook otherwise I'll never get out of middle class. Already use a friends Netflix account instead of paying for cable, and I'd ditch my cell if I didn't need it for work (hotspots). Upside down on my car, so I just plan to keep it as long as possible, as sort of a game (or until electric cars are the norm and maintenance is less of a headache).

One of the biggest things is killing your "want" mentality. I want a brand new Audi, or a 4K tv, or even wood floors for my house, but those don't appreciate in value, and are just consumerist shit. Went out in bought a new 9k bike thinking it would get better gas mileage on my commute to work, and turns out I just gun it everywhere, which kills those dreams (40MPG is still better than 19MPG, but still). There are so many ways to just piss money into the wind, it's absurd.

This is what I like about this site, as shitty as it can be sometimes. In life, you are bombarded with messages about how it's okay to treat yourself and skip out on your goals. When you don't have people as honest as they are here, you start to believe it a little bit.

I mean, yeah one day of splurging on say, a diet, isn't going to kill you, but all it takes is that one change to turn into multiple and then you've got a habit. One day won't hurt, but I want to do it on my own terms, when I can truly say with a level head, that I deserve it, and not some emotionally-driven impulse from my peers or some advertisement.

So thank you is basically what I'm trying to say. Sorry for the little journal entry, but I've had low willpower for months and now my diet is all fucked. Peers used to say I was too strict with it, so I loosened up a bit. Now? Fuck them, I'll put what I want into my body. No more cakes, brownies, etc. until I'm way physically and mentally healthier. Even then, only as a special treat, and only ON MY OWN TERMS.

Amerifat Burger here. Was 280 pounds in january.

Moving scrap iron and pants wont stay on. Cutting 3rd inside hole tonight. People are telling me i lost weight unprovoked.

On the 21 day diet thing fron beach body. I try and keep busy and cut that ahit in half so i dont have to workout.

Wife is on it to and when she loses some arbitrary weight number ahe is getting a boob job. She already has massive tits but doesnt like them.

In the event of an emergency i will use them as a flotation device. And if i lose 100 pounds this year maybe she will learn to suck a dick. Or if she wakes up and leaves my stupid ass at least i can get laid...

U want motivation? Change your diet a little at a time untik eatin an apple is cheating on your diet. Good ahit like pizza doesnt even look good after a few months of losing and working hard on it. Good luck brother.

False. Just bought a used Toyota Tacoma '14 4-door TRD off-road 4x4 for $29.5K. Put like $20K down and financed the rest at 2.6% interest FIXED. Truck has <50,000 miles on it, and a well maintained Tacoma can last over 250,000 miles.

You are either younger than 30 years or you don't live in reality.
Young people don't get that they are money magnets up to ~25.
Then comes family/some situation that twists your arm to do stuff you are aware are bad at long run(even short),yet there is no way/discipline/formula to circumvent all that,or even your life up to that point could be perfectly "driven",moment will inevitably come you will have to pay too big price for something that's not your fault.

I'll give one fast advice to everyone, eat raw fruit and vegetables, cheapest food is usually healthiest.
Shit like bananas, kiwi, oranges, apples etc can satisfy maybe 90% of your needs and you are gonna be healthy,
also, that myth that fast food is cheapest, is bull.

If you want to drive a new car every few years, lease, it's cheaper.
You don't have to pay for repairs, maintain it, and normally you can get some sweet deals with dealerships by agreeing to rent cars from the long-term (as in one new car a year for 4 years).

My first car was $15k, used it for three years, and bought a second car at $19k. Gave the first one to my dad as a gift, finished paying it off last month. I owe about 8k on my second car, and I really want to buy myself a Mustang in the future because I'm tired of driving little pansy cars, and I've loved those cars since I was little. I will not get rid of my second car, because it's reliable and inexpensive. $310 a month is nothing. But I just want something fun for the weekend. Currently setting aside $100-200 a week for it, and I'm planning on buying outright, because I don't much feel like doing another five years of debt. Whether I go for a simple base model or a GT, and regardless of how long it takes for me to save the amount to buy it, doesn't really phase me.

What say you, /biz/? Is this a stupid ass move or can I allow myself this one luxury in a few years? I don't drink/smoke/go out, I'm single with no kids and the only other thing I'm saving for is to buy some land and build a house. Uni is relatively easy for me to pay.
>>
>>1939937
>buying everything with a CC
It's the smarter way of doing things if you pay if off in full every month. You have more protection versus debit/cash and you get cash back, even if it's 1% that's a free $10 for every 1000 you spend.
