Depends on your capital. But nothing with very short expiry, this isn't going to burst overnight - will happen on a timescale roughly equal to the sub-prime mortgage fiasco.

>years
well, I can see it happening
I looked at Auto parts store before and they really haven't held up these months, 4seeable????!!!

The way I see it happening is on a roughly 18-month timescale:
- Within 6 months it will start to be reported on in the mainstream media.
- 12 months and it will become almost the headline story for quite some time with heavy losses building up and automakers stocks dropping big time.
- 18 months and the big players will be filing for bankruptcy protection again (like in 08/09).

>Short the Auto-Sector
This isn't a bad idea actually.
With the rise of Tesla and other electronic vehicles the internal combustion engine will face decline and that will hit traditional car companies massively.

m8 Tesla is the Apple of automobiles
You can hate them all you want but hipsters love that shit and will pay anything for it
Also, electric vehicles are the future, whether you like it or not

Tesla will probably work out well in the long run but I do believe that it's overvalued right now. It has a P/E of around negative 58 and is supposedly priced at a higher valuation than GM despite selling an order of magnitude fewer cars last year.
Also, if this short does interest you then don't just focus on automakers but also car financing (one could argue especially car financing actually) - take a look at SC, ALLY, KMX and CACC.

Sub prime auto bubble is due to pop very soon. Just look around. When the pizza delivery guy pulls up in a brand new mustang you know something aint right.
Lol Tesla is not valued so high for its sales in automobiles. Its the technoogical potential of their sophisticated storage batteries people are crazy about. So basically its still an investment case that burns cash by definition.
