Would ask this in a different thread but there is none, so essentially, how do you start from 0? Pennystocks don't seem to have a high enough reward to be worthwhile, and definitely not enough to build up a solid base.
To gain any amount - lose money and now you have gained a negative amount

Everyone starts at zero, then they get a job. Pay off your debts you accumulated and create a reserve. Once you have a secure reserve, invest anything else you have in an index fund. After that you may take more risk with extra cash.
If you haven't done at least this, you will probably never have a solid base in life, always living on the edge of destruction where 70% or more of people end up with nothing, or less than nothing.

I'm considering going down the road to a currency exchange and going long on some foreign currencies, just to see if I have what it takes to predict global-macro trends.
If that works, maybe I'll get a job, lash together some cash and open up an account with a legit Forex brokerage and probably lose it all on the count of overconfidence

Something you can build from elbow grease, even something like mowing lawns can be far more profitable than fucking day trading.
