You can keep it on Coinbase until you plan to sell if you want. Then, make sure you're fully verified and transfer it to gdax before you sell

what you want is coinbase exchange not coinbase retail

coinbase retail has lower requirements (identity, payment with cc) but marks the price up considerably.

Also 1.49% or so for selling but you avoid that by using the coinbase exchange instead of selling back to them directly.

There are far easier ways to get around both of these fees. Also for fuck's sake use the coinbase exchange if you aren't smart enough to use a better one.
