Buying things when their price and market cap is at an ATH.

It's like you're taking profitable trading techniques and doing the complete opposite.

I just request that we have an ETH bagholder thread in a few weeks time to stop them clogging up the board.
>>
>>1861807
What about 'cex.io' ?
>>
>>1861769
Coinbase (fees up the ass though); my preference is Gemini. Then there are all of the exchanges like Polo, GDAX ect. If you are new, just use Gemini - you can purchase in USD or BTC (Assuming you are american); if not, get some BTC from literally anywhere and use it to purchase ETH. For wallets; ether wallet/myetherwallet or hardware wallet like a ledger nano s.
>>
>>1861688
I'm plagiarising this. Good looks lad

Is there a difference between holding mETH on coinbase or holding it on an online wallet?

Unsure if it is worth moving my 20 or so ETH as I'm planning to just hold until $100 or so.
>>
>>1862080
Coinbase is safe and they have an insurance policy on if your coins get hacked/stolen I believe.
>>
>>1861527
Dude, they have smart contracts that fucking no one uses. It's a gold rush.
>>
>>1862080
If you have your coins on an exchange, you don't really own the coins. The coins are in the exchange's account and you're trusting that they will be honorable and send them to you when you ask for them. Somebody could hack into the site or the company could become insolvent and decide to fuck over its users.

If you hold it in your account, then you own it and no person or government on Earth can take it from you as long as they don't have two things: your public key (a file), and your private key (the password associated with your account).

Just remember to save your key file in multiple locations (for instance, on your computer and in two flash drives held in different locations), and make your password good (30+ characters) and memorable, and then write it down but don't label it as anything, and hold it somewhere safe.

So the anon who acctualy will help me out I will give a very thight hug over the internet.

Thank you.
>>
>>1862129
Also, by account I don't mean an online wallet, I mean download Mist and create an actual Ethereum account of your own.

Some of the online wallets might be using implementations where you aren't really interacting with your very own account. They're for plebs.
>>
>>1862145
coinbase.com or gemini exchange
>>
Tfw I sold all my 25 ETH at $12 just before it started to skyrocket

>>
>>1862145
Create account on coinbase.
Add your bank account on there.
Transfer funds from your bank account to your coinbase account.
Buy ether.
Download Mist.
Create ethereum account. (Save keyfile and password as explained above)
Transfer ether from your coinbase account to your ethereum account address.
>>
>>1862156
okay Im right now on coinbase and since Im from germany it tells me I can have a wallet but cant buy or sell there.
>>
>>1862162

>>
>>1862177
It's because the latest versions of Mist open the wallet before syncing for some odd reason. Here's what you do.

In windows, go to C:>Users>YourAccountName>AppData (hidden folder) >Roaming>Mist>binaries>Geth>unpacked

Copy the geth executable and paste it into your YourAccountName folder (mentioned above).

Open your Command Prompt (Start>Windows System>Command Prompt)

Type geth and hit Enter.

It will start syncing.
>>
>>1862221
After it's done syncing, keep the Command Prompt open and open your Mist. It will detect the running geth and you'll be good to go.

Do not fall for the hype.
Do not compare bitcoins with ethereum.
Do not risk money you cannot afford to lose.
Do not risk too much, but use it to slowly get into the crypto-investment jungle
Do not be greedy.
Do not ever trust anyone here without very well done research.

Always remember that most of us are shady creatures making shekels through others losing their money

You would make a good point if ETH was a stock and not a currency

Since it's a currency, volume matters much more. Plus, those who buy are less likely to sell, because they buy small amounts, already knowing the volatility, and hodl.

Nah man in the next week or two there's gonna be a hack or some bad piece of news that sends the price plummeting. That'll be the time to buy in.

Times this by 2. That's where ETH is going niggers.
>>
Just don't be a shortlet and dump it after the first bump. This is going to the moon like fucking BTC except higher. Every dollar you put in now is going to be worth about 100 in a year or two.
>>
>>1865498
we are due a price correction today or tomorrow
>>
>>1865503
Why do you say that?
>>
>>1865511
this is mostly people switching from bitcoin over to ETH, there isn't any actual reason for the rise in price other than the demand which will drop off.
>>
>>1865520
although i doubt we will go below $30 and defo not below $25
>>
>>1865511
price seems to have plateaued for the last 12 hours

bubbles are made by an influx of speculative investors

when they aren't making money they sell, and when they see the 24 hour change go from 25% to 2% in 12 hours I think they will

I can't be bothered to deal with all the stress about market timing to try and increase my holdings
>>
>>1865520
But isn't the difference between ETH and BTC that BTC is limited to basically anonymous drug money, and ETH is some sort of nebulous processing power available on the etherium network, which plans to function as a block chain available to handle all sorts of process and such? Bitcoin seems like it will eventually run out of steam because it's based on a flawed concept of money, while ETH may function as an actual resource.

COONBASE FUCKING ROBBED ME I BOUGHT ETH TWO WEEKS AGO AND THEY STILL HAVENT RETURNED MY MONEY OR GIVEN ME THE ETH I BOUGHT AT 19 DOLLARS BECAUSE THEY CANCELLED MY ORDER
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>
>>1865548
yeah sure, but nothing has been released recently causing the price increase. In fact we've had a delay on one project.

This is mostly the result of demand outstripping supply for a few days, but once this is over it'll fall as supply increases.
>>
>>1865565
You do agree that this is going to basically follow an upward trend into the thousands similar to BTC though? SURELY.
>>
>>1865584
it'll be at around $200 before the years end.
>>
>>1865565
Just because you don't know what it was doesn't mean there wasn't a catalyst. I don't really buy the scenario that SOMEONE (or a collective) decided do just load up over the last week, pushing the price up knowing full well it would sink back down once their spending spree was finished.
>>
>>1865597
there was a catalyst, bitcoin failed a vote so people lost trust and moved to ETH a temporary gain in demand will not hold out.
>>
>>1865597
what if the /biz/ shills are the ones pumping the price?
>>
>>1865614
/biz/ has fewer people on it than /r/ethtrader and /r/ethtrader has no effect on the price.
>>
>>1865614
>/biz/ has one (1) billion dollar
>>
>>1865614
>375 million daily volume
>all biz
>>
>>1865620
>ethtrader

there's one guy there with 250 000 eth
that's more than all but one exchanges daily volume
>>
>>1865610
Why would demand let up though? I mean BTC made sense when there was the possibility of retail investors being able to pump it to high heaven with an ETF, but unless whatever is happening on mar 30 pans out, seems like ETH makes more sense as a matter of tech start ups loading up on ETH as a source of both value and future processing power, where as someone with 100 million dollars buying bitcoin ends up with 100 million in bitcoins, give or take depending on when the next silk road or mt gox or whatever happens.
>>
>>1865628
Who's buying this stuff
>>
>>1865614
You have poorfags and NEETs on here begging for a single ether then admin if they should sell it the next day.

It's an ok place for information but ultimately has very little effect on crypto
>>
>>1865646
demand will decrease because btc switchers will stop switching, it's not like we will have the buy rate we have now in 2 or 3 days.

By the way i'm only talking about 2-3 day time period, the price will go back up soon after.
>>
>>1865657
Well I'm just a newcoiner trying to figure this shit out. I've stayed out until now because I fundamentally don't trust bitcoin, because it's precipitated on bad monetary policy like everyone should be some sort of e-gold bug. Reading what I can, ETH makes sense as a matter of functioning as a resource where more can be "minted" and (assuming etherium doesn't collapse) isn't going anywhere, where bitcoin could collapse just because a better crypto comes along.
>>
>>1862345
Genuinely curious why everybody on here thinks that. Why is eth better than bt?
>>
>>1865708
it has the backing of corporations and banks as well as more utility for use outside of just currency.

BTC is like fiat currency while Etheruem is like platinum, fiat is valueless if people don't trust it, platinum has uses in industry and thus has base value.
>>
>>1865708
Bitcoins value is limited by the number of people who want to use it. Right now, that's the drug trade and money laundering.

ETH will have buy in from various companies who want to utilize blockchain technology but would rather outsource it than develop one themselves. Assuming the folks running the company don't run it in to the ground or get outclassed by someone offering the same service, ETH basically lets you buy in to that, not unlike holding mineral rights on a piece of land you aren't equipped to extract yourself.

you do realize there's gonna be another BTC ETF on March 30th right? Its gonna be another huge pump for ETH
>>

>>

The jokes on them as these companies are using clones of the etherum blockchain and not the real deal.

Maybe this created some legitimacy with the NOcoin fags.

If you're investing in tech you're the dumb money. The smart money got in at the start.

Same thing with coins now, the smart money was in a while back when it was cheap and could still be mined. You're getting semi-smart money in some altcoins now and soon to be dumb money next time there's a big story on the MSM or some normie website.
