In the 90s, the head engineers from major computer lines were payed millions. I know that the IT and STEM are oversaturated, but aren't there always new computer models coming out? I dont know much about the 90s, except that apple, amiga, and windows were major players. But now of days theres tons of companies from dell, hp, acer, etc.

just lurk /g/ and see how many unemployed "computer engineer" there are
a degree means jack shit. it is more important who your parents know, and who can give you a job
>>1856288
wew fucking lad mate
>But now of days theres tons of companies from dell, hp, acer, etc.
a lot of those design jobs are in Taiwan and pay the equivalent of $40k/year

Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing that you will never get promoted to upper management because you're not a chink.

>Engineering a computer
>Manufacturer it

>computer engineer
Sorrry. Im a retard, manufacturer, designer, i dont fucking know. I just want to who the rich people are at a computer company
>>1856309
...how old are you?
I suggest you do some serious research into EECS majors and think about if it really interests you
I went into electrical engineering for the money and school was an absolute nightmare because of it
>>1856356
oh. i dont plan on actually plan on pursuing it. im jusst fascinated with these people in the 90s who literally made millions just for knowing some coding. I still dont understand why it cant be replicated to day. I mean, there sweatshops in the 90s too weren't there?
>>1856367
the same way people have been getting rich for centuries
by having the knowledge and capital that very few other people had and the ability to sell it to everyone who didn't have either
>>1856386
yeah, but im not talking about making your own computer company and selling computers. Im talking about engineers who made millions working under some dude.

Software engineers recruited out of college by Google make 150k total comp (~100k base, 50k in stock and bonuses vesting over four years)
Salaries are still very high in San Francisco/Silicon Valley
>Can Computer Engineers Still Make big bank?
Programming-wise?
Unless you're working at Google or another big 4 company (good luck landing a job at one of those), have fun getting your job taken by a Pajeet who will work for $10/hr.
Electrical engineering-wise?
If you're autistic-tier good at math and science and a bit of a masochist, then get a degree in EE.
I'm currently in EE but I'm changing my major to finance or accounting, EE doesn't interest me at all and my GPA is tanking big time.
>>1857044
that's not even true
the highest level math typical EE takes is ordinary differential equations
the only difficult stuff is the calc 3 level shit and you can fudge the shit out of that on exams and get away with it
>>1856998
also this is kind of sad because there are waaaay more software positions open in the Bay Area than hardware
>>1856392
they worked for "startups" before there was such a thing, owned equity in the company, and made out like bandits when the company exploded
the less people know about something that is highly in demand and you know it, the more money you can make off it
in the nineteenth century people thought electrical engineers were actual wizards instead of r9k wizards because they were stupid and didn't know shit
>>1857550
thats pretty cool.
>>1856288
WRONG. If you have an engineering degree (in America at least I don't know about other countries) you're either: not willing to move, not looking hard enough or a complete autist.
>>1856288
>being underage
please don't spout shit you have no clue about
