I'm starting a blog about investing, and generally business/finance.
What's the best way to make money out of this?
Email lists are something I'll be looking into for sure (got a lot of experience with mailchimp/mandrill through work) but PPC ads are something I haven't used before.
Are there any good Pay Per Click ads for finance? (e.g. Bloomberg, Yahoo, shit people would actually click)
What about affiliate marketing?
Basically I just want to make a handy bit of cash on the side while travelling
It is 2017. 80% of interested readers have ad-block. Are you fucking retarded?

Hahaha, hadn't even thought of that
Okay, well besides affiliate marketing, how the fuck do you monetize a blog in this day and age?
I'm not looking to make a living off it, just a few bucks on the side. Mainly doing it to show an active interest in investing, currently trying to move into finance

what are you interested in and what is your exp? I have thought about this and it would definitely be easier to do with more than 1 person.

There is a network of finance blogs, a lot of the popular blog are on board. Sorry don't remember what it's called
I see no money in blogs today except you offer some really valueable content.
You can do some other shit with your time instead of investing a few hours a month writing articles for 50 bucks at the end.
There's hardly any money to be made directly from blogs any more.
Your best case scenario is that you become a 'thought leader' and get paid to speak at seminars etc. There's good money in that.

This thread is already full of misinfo.
If you want to monetize a project like this I would go about three ways:
1) Content is king. Blogs like Mergers & Inquisitions get traffic because their content has a hook and brings people back. If you want to make money in this your bread and butter is going be return visitors.
2) Google Analytics will go a long way in helping you get advertising. You can sell advertising by going directly to companies and offering them 30 day slots. You can start this small and build up as you get more traffic. Even $50 a month is fine for a small banner. Beyond this use Google Adsense and other PPC mediums to start. Again, to start some clicks are better than no clicks. Some money better than no money.
3) Affiliate marketing. Sign up cj.com and you can get companies like Etrade who pay you based on a new customer sign up and a monthly recurring. Target a section of your blog to new investors and walk them through how to sign up on Etrade (or where ever) through your affiliate link.
3A) You can also push traffic to your affiliate by making jewtube videos explaining entry level investing info. Perhaps the biggest money maker for a small project like this is a podcast. You can get a ton of money from a wide array of investors if you can pull thousands of downloads on your podcast. It's easy as hell to host through sites like blogtalkradio.
Don't believe the Anons talking about "80% use adblock". This is bullshit. Maybe 80% of the Anons do but the average internet user isn't a basement dwelling cynic. People actually click links. I don't fucking know why but they do. Hell, people even still pay for porn for some reason.
Good luck Anon.
